One side has a deep rib pattern for heavier foot traffic and the other side has a smaller not as deep rib pattern for light to medium foot traffic making it usable on either side. Another benifit of this being a reversable mat is that no matter which side fits your needs; the underside will not hold moisture underneath, the ribs prevent an air flow allowing drying.
