Recessed foyer (or area) mats are designed to be placed in a recessed area that prevents water and debris from being tracked into your establishment. However, when combined with the appropriate frame(s) these mats do very well when placed on top of the existing floor surface. A recessed foyer combined with the appropriate recessed foyer mat will greatly reduce unwanted debris in your office, store or plant. It is best to chose a recessed foyer mat before the recess is done so you have the appropriate depth for a flush fit. This way you ensure a smooth transition from the floor to the mat and from mat back to the floor reducing tripping hazards. The difference between vinyl and aluminum grates is that in most aluminum recessed area mats you have the ability to replace inserts without having to replace the entire mat. Also, aluminum foyer mats can be made thicker allowing more water/debris to accumulate under them.
